Additional Artwork in the Wheatley Cafeteria!

Near the end of November, new student artwork was presented in the cafeteria. The artwork was the result of a Day of Service and Learning activity spearheaded by Wheatley’s very own art teacher, Julia Maloney.

Given the positive reaction to the artwork, Mrs. Maloney worked with her students to produce eight additional pieces! Although the name plaques are not ready yet, the artwork was mounted today!

Congratulations to the following students for having their work featured:

  • Noah Gorlewski (Class of 2024)
  • Cydney Siskind (Class of 2022)

Since 2012, the graduating seniors have had an opportunity to submit their work to be included in the artwork display outside of Room 450. Each year, four pieces of art are included. Last year, we had to expand the display to the wall across from Room 450.

Thank you to Mrs. Julia Maloney for her support and encouragement of the students.

Congratulations to the following students for having their work selected for the display:

  • Maliha Ayaz
  • Sarah Hochstein
  • Jordana Sheinman

Senior Sunset for the Class of 2022!

On 31 August 2021, the Class of 2022 greeted its Senior Year at Wheatley with a Senior Sunrise—an early morning gathering on the fields to welcome in what promised to be a remarkable year. In the week leading to graduation, as students were in their final official week of classes at Wheatley, it was time to prepare for the end of their senior year with the Senior Sunset.

Thanks to the help of the Wheatley PTO Senior Sunset Committee, the students had refreshments, commemorative pens and a celebratory atmosphere.

Our friends at Island Photography were there to capture the moment.

Congratulations to the Class of 2022!

English 10H Talks Permit Students to Share their Passions!

Earlier this month, students in our English 10 Honors courses finished work on the seventh annual “English 10H Talks.” Modeled after the well-known Ted Talks, these student presentations aim to answer the question, “What Matters?” Students chose topics that reflected their passions and interests, aiming to educate and inform the audience in under ten minutes.

In order to share these impressive presentations with friends, family and the community, students recorded them using FlipGrid. You can access the presentations through the following link: https://flipgrid.com/72e5e09a

Congratulations to the students for completing these terrific presentations. A big “Thank You” to Lauren Blum for her work organizing, inspiring and helping students through this work.

Class of 2022 Walkthrough of Willets Road and North Side!

Earlier this morning, members of the Class of 2022 participated in the first of what we expect to be an annual tradition in our district: A Walkthrough of North Side and Willets Road by members of the graduating class!

We were excited to present our younger students (and their teachers) with an opportunity to celebrate our graduates as they walked through the hallways of our elementary and middle school.

Graduating seniors absolutely loved the experience: they were so touched by the greetings they received in the two buildings. They loved seeing their younger siblings and their former teachers.

Thank you to Mr. Bloomgarden and Mrs. Pandolf for creating such a wonderful experience at North Side! Thank you also to Mrs. Dragone and Mrs. Mammolito for creating such a memorable experience at Willets Road!

Our 18th Annual In Recognition of Excellence Dinner Highlights Connections Between Faculty and Students!

Last night, 15 June, our 18th Annual In Recognition of Excellence dinner was held. During a very busy time of the year, this remains one of my favorite evenings. Through our students’ own voices, attendees are reminded of the deep and lasting impact our faculty has on our students’ academic, emotional and social lives. The celebration of the relationships formed and connections made is part of what makes for such a special evening!

With so much talent in our school, it is still possible for some students to not get the recognition that they deserve. To recognize these students, the In Recognition of Excellence award was introduced. This honor is given to a group of students who have demonstrated outstanding service to school and community, demonstrated respect and concern for fellow students, and set high expectations for themselves as they have achieved their goals.

The recipients of this award were asked to select one teacher, staff member or coach from their experiences at North Side, Willets Road, and Wheatley who had the greatest positive impact on their life.

Congratulations to our recognized students and the faculty they acknowledged:

Last night, on a beautiful Wednesday evening, members of the Class of 2022 celebrated at their Senior Prom—held at the beautiful Heritage Club at Bethpage. In what proved to be an incredibly joyful event, students arrived early and stayed late.

There will be several posts with prom photos…enjoy these first few photos of students arriving at their prom and enjoying the first part of the evening.
